To increase the tactical mobility of the Nebelwerfer, the 15 cm Panzerwerfer 42 (Sd. Kfz. 4/1) was developed. The 15 cm Panzerwerfer 42 consisted of the Panzerwerfer (Sd. Kfz. 4/1) and the 15 cm Nebelwerfer-Zehnling 42, which was mounted to the little turret of the Panzerwerfer. (Photo: NARA)

The first exemplars of the 300 ordered vehicles were delivered in April 1943. Exclusively, the Opel Maultier chassis was used. Because of the weight of the armoured superstructure, the 15 cm Nebelwerfer-Zehnling 42 and the ammunition, the chassis had reached its maximum load. This weapon system was officially introduced on 24th Mai 1944.
