About 680 gun vehicles and 160 ammunition vehicles of the 10,5 cm le.FH 18/2 auf Gw. II Wespe (Sd. Kfz. 124) were made from February 1943 to June 1944. Mainly, the ammunition vehicle differed from the gun vehicle only by the missing main gun. On these vehicles, the hole in the upper forward armoured superstructure was closed by a simple armoured plate. The Wespe - wasp - was planned as interim solution but served very well at the frontline. The official introduction was published in the Ht.V.Bl. 1943, 8. Ausg. from 15th August 1943, No.214.
