After the bad experiences made on the eastern front in winter 1941/42, the Sonderausrüstung für Winterbetrieb - a special equipment for the winter operation of motor vehicles - was developed and introduced for many vehicle types. The equipment simplified the starting of engines during cold weather. The image illustrates the Wärmekasten für Sammler - isolation box for batteries - built into an Opel Blitz 3.6-6700 A (1: isolation box, 2: cover slider, 3: burner). (Image from D 635/5)
