In competition to the Waffen-SS, Opel developed an own track drive. This was mounted to a subframe, which could be attached to every Opel Blitz without greater effort. This construction had several advantages but in the end, the construction of the Waffen-SS had to be manufactured. (Photo: Opel)

About 4,000 exemplars of the serial model, the Opel Blitz 3.6-36S / SSM Maultier were manufactured. The photo was made during the testing period of this developmen. The mudguard in front of the running gear was missing on early vehicles. The road wheels of a common type had four holes.
