During the year 1937, Hansa Lloyd developed the model HL kl 5 to the HL kl 6 and started serial production. The vehicle was now propelled by a Maybach NL 38 TUKR engine with an output of 90 HP. The towing capacity was therefore increased from 2,500 kg to 3,000 kg. In 1938, Hanomag took over the development works for the le. Zgkw. 3t. After minor changes, the vehicle was designated H kl 6. In late 1938, the engine was replaced by the Maybach NL 38 TUKRM with an output of 100 HP.
