The predecessor model of the model DB s 8 - the DB 9 - was introduced in 1938. Basically it was structurally identical to the previous model DB s 8.

The model DB 9 had new drive and idler wheels and was propelled by the stronger Maybach HL 85 engine with 180 HP. The pulling force was increased to 14 tons.
