Already during the Polish camoaign, the 3.7 cm Pak proved to be insufficient. For this reason, one remebered the 4.7 cm Pak 36 (t) which was available in larger numbers after the destruction of Czechoslovakia. This weapon was mounted on the chassis of the Panzerkampfwagen I (Sd.Kfz. 101) Ausf. B of which the turret and parts of the hull roof were removed. The now opened fighting compartment was protected to the front and sides by adding thin armour plates.
