Commercial lorries with a dead weight of up to 4,500 kg and a payload of up to 3,500 kg were classified as mittlerer Lastkraftwagen, offen (o) - medium lorry, open (commercial), abbreviated m. Lkw., off. (o). The key factor was the payload. The Büssing-NAG 300 Burglöwe with a dead weight of about 3,700 kg and a payload of 3,000 kg was a typical vehicle of this class.

The later introduced lorrys of the Schell-Plan were also classified according to the used system. As an example, the Mercedes-Benz L 3000 S had a dead weight of 3,690 kg and a payload of 3,100 kg. With 2,500 kg, the Opel Blitz 3,6-36 S actually had a lower dead weight than the specifications for the l. Lkw. (o) required!
